Can I legally drive an electric bicycle in Thailand?
Yes, our e-bikes can be legally ridden in Thailand without a driver’s license.
They are classified as pedal-assist electric bicycles and meet the following criteria:
Equipped with functional pedals (can be ridden without motor power)
Electric motor rated at no more than 500 watts
Maximum assisted speed of less than 45 km/h
According to Section 4 of the Land Traffic Act B.E. 2522 (1979), this qualifies them as “bicycles”, defined as vehicles propelled by human power.
They do not fall under the definition of a motorcycle as per Section 6 of the Motor Vehicle Act, and therefore do not require registration or a driver’s license.
These models are designed to support clean and safe mobility, especially in tourism zones.
Riders are expected to follow all traffic laws and regulations at all times.
Do I need a license to rent an electric bike?
No, a driving license is not required to use our electric bikes, unlike motorized two-wheelers that require an international motorcycle license (even for a simple 50cc).
However, traffic laws apply. We strongly recommend staying vigilant and adhering to local traffic rules for your safety. Drive on the left!

Can I recharge the bike’s battery anywhere?
You can gently ask to recharge the battery in cafés, bars, or other businesses around Thailand — most of the time, they’ll be happy to help.
Just make sure to use only the charger provided by Sawadeebike.
Can I remove the battery to charge it in my hotel room?
Yes, you can. We even recommend charging the battery indoors, especially in your hotel room.
Avoid plugging the bike directly into an extension cord — always remove the battery and charge it separately, using the official Sawadeebike charger only.
Once plugged in, the charger will emit a light red LED during charging.
Battery fully charged : the light turns green.
You’ll also hear a soft ventilation sound coming from the charger — this is completely normal and confirms the battery is charging.
A full charge takes about 4 to 5 hours.
What should I do if I get a puncture?
Don’t worry — just contact our team via Whatsapp / LINE or phone. We’ll come to pick up the bike, bring it back to our workshop, and handle the repair.
